Europe : Mobility for all - Leslie Olivia, French student in the United Kingdom

Hello! I'm Leslie Olivia and I'm 20. I'm currently in London, where I decided to come to live to study. Going to lessons isn't always easy. It's quite a nice day, I'm happy. It makes me want to dress in bright colours. Looks nice, eh? Bye, Reb! I'm off. I took a scientific baccalauréat in France, which I passed at 17. Then, I simply decided to leave in search of adventure. I really wanted to discover something new. What I'd like to do is a job linked to events organisation, but also linked to management. That really interests me. I looked around in France, but it wasn't easy. Here, they offer a lot of courses for that type of training. And it's in demand. Now I'm getting ready to take the DLR. I hope I'll be on time for lessons. I wouldn't want to be late. I'll try and get there. I didn't leave with a programme or any particular framework. I just went by myself. I chose a student loan to cover my expenses, my studies, and also daily life. I'm on year 1 of a management course, a Bachelor of Science course. The French equivalent is a "licence". At first, I tended to stay in a cocoon, speaking French with my classmates from France. But I realised it's much more interesting to open up to other cultures and in particular to try and improve my English. Leslie's very friendly and very outgoing, very positive and very self-directed. She communicates with other people and engages. She asks questions. Some students from other countries or other educational backgrounds are less talkative. This experience has really helped me mature. I have a lot of responsibility like living in a flat, paying bills, or just very simple things, like being punctual, which are very important. This experience has enabled me to realise I was stronger than I thought. Making friends with people who aren't from your culture, who don't necessarily understand you, has not been easy. Even in a densely populated city like London, at times you can feel rather lonely. England has a strong point particularly London, which is highly populated and diverse. People pay less attention to your religion or your ethnical background, people see the positive side of others and what they bring to society. Here we are in London! Hello! How are you? Us girls are about to go for a drink. I'd advise young people, particularly girls, to take the opportunity to travel and not to be afraid. It's only with strong personalities and change, that we'll manage to eradicate clichés. You shouldn't!
Bilingual, Leslie lives in London (United Kingdom). She appreciates its diversity. To finance her studies in management at the university, she has taken out a student loan. She fully recommends the mobility experience for young women.
