Europe : Mobility for all - Ginny Cooper, British student in France
Parcours
My name is Ginny Cooper, I'm 21, And I'm in France for 3 months to study graphic design and improve my French. I've just got off the metro and I'm at school on a lovely sunny Monday morning. This is school... You can see all the students as well. We'll go and have a look. Kai is going to have to say hello to the camera. - Say hello, Kai. - Hello. I go to London College of Communication which is an art university in the centre of London to do promotion, advertising, page layout, all things to do with media and multimedia. At university, we had an option to take a year out during which I can do whatever I want. I could've stayed in London and done some work experience. But since I was little I've always wanted to come and live in Paris. And as my school is twinned with Estienne 100) 10:06:23:09 10:06:24:12 Durée : 01:03 Lisibilité : 019 Intervalle : 00:06 Nbc : 026 my teachers told me that I could come here for 3 months. - That's a grey? - Yes, maybe you can lighten it. I'm in a class with 9 other Erasmus students from all over the world, but we speak in French. We have certain lessons together and we can join the French students as well, if we want to, to do other lessons. They've given us the option to do a bit of everything: we can choose animation, screen printing, typography... The Estienne school has been welcoming Erasmus students for the past 20 years. We do bi-lateral exchanges: we receive foreign students, while our students go abroad, to mainly European universities. On the technical level, we provide them with a range of know-how: graphic design, advertising, or visual communication. I think it adds to a CV as it shows that the student is ready to commit to an experience abroad, to get to know another culture and to learn new techniques and ways of doing. I'm in the Marais, one of the prettiest areas of Paris where you can go window-shopping or wander about on a nice day. It's Christmas in a week so I'm going to go and find some presents. Finding a flat was really difficult, especially from England. Because on Internet you're not sure whether people are being serious or are trying to con you. I had a few bad experiences, so I decided to come over here and stay with some family friends for a week and search while I was here, as that was easier. In terms of money, I got a grant from Erasmus which paid for all my accommodation, which was really good. And I still get a loan from the British government to help with living costs. Okay, it's dinner time! And we're all eating together, it's very nice. Lisa is here. Say hello, Lisa! - And Yanis. - Hi... And Anne-Laure. Hello! This is our lovely French version of roast chicken. We're on the metro, having just had a drink at home and we're off to see the concert. Coming to a different country totally opens up your mind makes you view things in a different way. I think everyone should do it, it should be part of... a learning experience. Everything should take out 3 months or more. I feel 3 months is too short. You learn so much, you meet different people. It's a really good experience.
